Lady Lions Get Balanced Attack In Four-Set Win Over ULM

HAMMOND – Freshman Elizabeth Ramee tied a season-high with 13 kills and led a balanced attack as Southeastern Louisiana defeated Louisiana-Monroe, 25-14, 21-25, 25-21, 25-17, in a non-conference volleyball match Tuesday at the University Center.

Paige Dollison and Kinsey Williams added 12 kills each for Southeastern (4-9) while Courtney Donald had 10. The Lady Lions hit .210 for the match as Ramee led the way with a blistering .571 performance (13-1-21). Dollison, who finished one kill shy of her career high, hit .478 at the net (12-1-23).

“I was really impressed with the girl's character, they really wanted to play well at home and they wanted to make this a tough place for opponents to play in,” Southeastern head coach Geno Frugoli said. “They played with great focus tonight and they defeated a team (ULM) that I feel is a lot better than what they showed tonight.”

Lindsey Young posted a double-double for Southeastern with 37 assists and 13 digs while Megan McMillin recorded a career-high 24 digs. Taylor Buckner added 13 digs for the Lady Lions with Cherish Krohn adding 12. Arianne Cruckshank added five assists to increase her career total to 1,504 for Southeastern, passing Jill Edwards (1,500 from 2004-06) for fifth in school history.

ULM (4-3) was paced by Zuzana Markova, who posted a triple-double with 10 kills, 19 assists and 10 digs. Blanca Ocana added 10 kills and three aces for the Warhawks, who finished at .118 in the net. Marcela Urbina paced the Warhawks with 17 digs while Alannah Cullum had a match-high five blocks.

Southeastern will return to action beginning Friday when it competes in the Houston Baptist Husky Classic. The Lady Lions will open against Louisiana Tech at 4 p.m. before facing host HBU at 7. Southeastern will close out the tournament on Saturday at 11 a.m. against Southern Miss before hosting Louisiana-Lafayette in its final non-conference tuneup on Sept. 20.
