CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team could not avoid a sweep in its Southland Conference opening series, falling 6-1 at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Sunday afternoon at Chapman Field.
The loss was the fourth straight for the Lady Lions (7-11, 0-3 Southland). Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (16-5, 6-0 Southland) extended its winning streak to 11 games.
Southeastern was held to three hits by Islander junior starter Vianca Pesina (5-1). Senior

Katie Matthews all had hits for the Lady Lions. Freshman
Megan Moore scored the Lady Lions' lone run.
Sophomore
Kenna Terry (0-2) took the loss for the Lady Lions, allowing four runs in 2.2 innings of work. Senior Caley Jeter led the Islanders with a 3-for-4 performance, scoring two runs and driving in two runs.
The Islanders jumped out to a lead in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Cassie Redman walked and scored on a single by Jeter. Jeter would later score on an RBI single by senior Lauren Dodson to give the Islanders a 2-0 advantage.
In the third, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi added to its lead. Jeter singled, stole second and scored on a single by senior Kacie Smith. Smith then scored on a RBI single by senior Brittany Tucker to double the Islanders' lead.
Southeastern finally got on the board in the top of the fifth inning. Moore drew a two-out walk and scored when senior Lauren Sanders misplayed a ball off the bat of Matthews, cutting the lead to 4-1.
A&M-Corpus Christi got the run back in the bottom of the inning, as Smith led off the frame with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tucker. In the sixth, Jeter singled home another run to provide the final margin.
Pesina sat down the Lady Lions in order in the top of the seventh to secure the win.
Southeastern will return to action on Wednesday, traveling to Alcorn State for a 1 p.m. non-conference contest in Lorman, Miss.
