HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team battled to a split with UT Arlington in a Southland Conference doubleheader Saturday at North Oak Park.

Southeastern ran its record to 8-12 overall and 1-4 in Southland Conference play. UT Arlington took its first league loss and finished the day 15-10 overall and 4-1 in league action.

In the opener, sophomore Kenna Terry (1-2) earned her first win as a Lady Lion, holding the Lady Mavs to four hits in a complete-game victory. Junior Katie Matthews homered for the Lady Lions, while Meghan Gomez's two-run double keyed a three-run Southeastern fifth inning in a 5-1 win.

UT Arlington came back with an 8-0 victory in the nightcap. The Lady Mavs blew the game open with a five-run second inning, while Teri Lyles (6-6) held Southeastern to two hits in the shutout win.

The rubber game of the series is scheduled for Sunday at 12 p.m. Live stats will be available at www.LionSports.net.

Game 1 – Southeastern Louisiana 5, UT Arlington 1
UT Arlington took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Kersti Rowan singled with one out, stole second and scored on a two-out single by Courtney Enocksen to take the early lead.

Southeastern got the run back in the bottom of the second. Senior Katie Duhe led off the inning with a walk and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Matthews and a UTA error. Duhe then came home on a single by junior Trish Bliss to knot the score at 1-1.

The Lady Lions took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two outs, Matthews lifted a home run over the left field fence to put Southeastern on top, 2-1.

Southeastern put the game away in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bliss led off the inning with a single and scored when freshman Megan Moore double off the top of the left field fence. After freshman Jessie Browne walked to put a pair of runners on, Gomez ripped her team-high eighth double of the year down the right field line to put the Lady Lions up, 5-1.

That would be all the offense Terry would need. After allowing a leadoff single in the top of the fourth, the Baytown, Texas native retired the final 11 batters she faced to secure the win.

Game Two – UT Arlington 8, Southeastern Louisiana 0
UTA took the lead in the top of the first inning. A two-run double by LeFlore gave the Lady Mavs a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Mavs broke open the game in the top of the second inning. Charne Office doubled in the inning's first run and scored on a single by Taylor Zink. A three-run home run by LeFlore capped the scoring and put UTA up, 7-0.

Southeastern mounted its only threat in the bottom of the third inning. Sophomores Michelle Duhe and Kelsey Nichols hit consecutive singles with two outs, but Lyles struck out Gomez to end the threat.

UT Arlington added to the lead in the top of the fifth. Rowan drew a leadoff walk and scored on an RBI double by Enocksen to put UTA ahead, 8-0. Southeastern managed just a walk in the final two innings, as UTA would enforce the mercy rule.
