HAMMOND – Sam Houston State utilized big runs in all three sets Saturday to sweep the Lady Lions, 25-15, 25-13, 25-19, in a Southland Conference match.
Paige Dollison led Southeastern (4-23, 0-10 Southland) with seven kills.
Lindsey Young posted 12 assists and added seven digs.
Megan McMillin also contributed seven digs for the Lady Lions.
With score tied 3-3 early in the first set, SHSU rattled off 10 points in a row and took a 13-4 lead. Southeastern fought back, but couldn't close the gap.
The Lady Lions took a 4-2 lead in the second set, but another strong run by SHSU put the Bearkats on top, 10-6. Southeastern clawed back to tie the set at 12-12 as
Arianne Cruckshank served off four points in a row.
SHSU (13-10, 7-3 Southland) used a 13-6 run in the third set to build up a 16-9 lead over the Lady Lions. Southeastern brought the score within three, 18-15, but the Bearkats pulled away to take the set and the match.
Carli Kolbe led all players with 18 kills for the Bearkats. Jamie Haas contributed 13 digs and Kaylee Hawkins added 10 digs.
The Lady Lions embark on a four-match homestand Thursday as Lamar comes to the University Center for a Southland Conference contest.
