CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – As a strong start for the Lady Lions faded, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi pulled away Saturday for a Southland Conference volleyball victory.
Southeastern (4-21, 0-8 Southland) dropped the three sets, 25-21, 25-9, 25-16. The Islanders (11-13, 3-5 Southland) hit .294 as a team en route to the victory.
Paige Dollison recorded a Lady Lion-high six kills in the match; Tamara Grayson added five kills for Southeastern.
Lindsey Young contributed 20 assists for the Lady Lions and
Megan McMillin recorded 12 digs.
TAMU-CC was led by Brianna Brink and Jessica Korda who recorded nine kills each. Brooke Alverson and Shannon Hullum added eight kills apiece. Logan Bourque contributed 30 assists and a pair of players added double-digit digs for the Islanders.
The Lady Lions took a 6-3 lead in the first set off a Bourque attack error. A service error by Alverson halted a 6-1 TAMU-CC run with the Islanders on top, 9-8. Southeastern regained the lead, 10-9, after a
Kinsey Williams kill, but the Islanders pulled away down the stretch to take the set.
TAMU-CC rolled out to a 5-0 lead in the second set and Southeastern never closed the gap.
In the third set, Southeastern chased the Islanders within 7-6. A kill by Bourque sent TAMU-CC off on a 7-0 run and put the set out of reach.
Southeastern returns to action Tuesday at Nicholls State in a Southland Conference contest.
