MOBILE, Ala. – Allison Jones and
Courtney Donald recorded a match-high eight kills each and the Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team got a balanced attack at the net in defeating Alabama State, 25-23, 25-17, 25-17, to conclude the South Alabama Jaguar Classic on Saturday at Jag Gym.
Taylor Buckner added six kills for Southeastern (5-3) while
Stephanie Mueller and
Paige Dollison had five each for the Lady Lions, who went 2-2 in the five-team, three-day event.
Southeastern hit .250 at the net for the match with Mueller (.333), Donald (.316) and Dollison (.312) leading the way. Jones, who joined Mueller on the All-Tournament team, and Buckner each hit .200 for the match while the Lady Lion defense held ASU (1-4) to .071 at the net.
Freshman
Lindsey Young posted a season-high 21 assists for Southeastern while
Chelsea Barr added 13 digs and three service aces.
Brena Wheeler and Althea Russell had seven kills each to lead ASU while Roselande Corneille led all players with 16 digs.
Southeastern will return to action on Tuesday when it travels to face in-state rival Louisiana-Lafayette in a 7 p.m. match at Earl K. Long Gym.
