Southeastern looks to equal longest win streak of the season

Trent Hutchin has averaged 15.0 points in his last three games
HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team looks to equal its longest winning streak of the season Saturday when it travels to face Southland Conference rival UTSA at the UTSA Convocation Center.

Tipoff is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net. The game will also be televised on the Southland Conference Television Network (Charter Cable Channel 22 in Hammond and WBTR-TV 41 in Baton Rouge) and streamed live on the internet at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern (13-8, 5-3 Southland), which has won its last three games, opened its current streak with a 60-53 win against Central Arkansas before an 84-65 victory at Nicholls State last Saturday. In their last game on Wednesday, Southeastern rallied from a 12-point first-half deficit to claim a 75-66 win over Texas State.

Patrick Sullivan scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Lions with Deshawn Patterson adding a career-high 21 points in the comeback victory. Sullivan, Southeastern's leading scorer (15.2) and rebounder (8.4), nearly posted a triple-double as he blocked eight shots in the contest – seven of them in the second half.

Trent Hutchin averages 11.1 points for the Lions while Brandon Fortenberry (8.2), Rodney Jones (6.8), Robert Tibbs (6.6), Patterson (5.0) and Jason Marks (4.2) are next in scoring.

As a team, Southeastern averages 73.9 points per game while allowing 65.5. The Lions shoot a league-best 47.8 percent from the floor while holding opponents to a league-low 39.1.

UTSA (12-7, 2-4 Southland) has dropped its last four games after recording wins earlier in the season against Iowa and Houston. The Roadrunners opened with seven straight wins at home before losses to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Lamar in their last two contests.

Against Lamar, Morris Smith IV scored 19 points to lead UTSA, but the Roadrunners shot 38 percent for the game and dropped a 64-57 decision.

Smith leads UTSA in scoring at 13.2 points per game while Devin Gibson is next at 12.8. Omar Johnson follows for the Roadrunners at 10.7 points with Terry Fields (9.9), Melvin Johnson (7.9) and DeMarco Stepter (7.6) next.

UTSA, coached by former Southeastern assistant Brooks Thompson, averages 70.7 points per game and allows 63.3.

The Roadrunners lead the all-time series, 13-12, winning the last two games played in the Hammond. Southeastern captured the last meeting between the schools at the Convocation Center, claiming a 64-57 victory on Feb. 8, 2007.
