Sullivan, Patterson Fuel Comeback Win Over Texas State

Southeastern Louisiana's Patrick Sullivan scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Deshawn Patterson scored a career-high 21 points as the Lions erased a 12-point first half deficit and rallied for a 75-66 win over Texas State in a Southland Conference game Wednesday at the University Center.

Brandon Fortenberry added 12 points for Southeastern (13-8, 5-3 SLC) while Trent Hutchin added 10. The Lions, who won for the first time this season after trailing at halftime, held Texas State (10-12, 4-4 SLC) to 7-for-38 (18.4 percent) from the floor in the second half as they outscored the Bobcats, 46-34, in the final 20 minutes.

Sullivan added a career-high eight blocked shots – seven of them coming in the second half – as Southeastern chipped away at a 30-18 Texas State lead in the first half before taking the lead for good on a Hutchin 3-pointer for a 40-38 lead with 15:40 remaining.

Sullivan scored four straight points to open a 14-4 run that turned a 36-31 deficit into a 45-40 lead. The senior opened the spurt with a driving layup before firing up the crowd with a thunderdous dunk after a Cameron Johnson turnover. Sullivan capped off the run with bucket at the 12:34 mark that gave the Lions a lead they would not relinquish.

Southeastern pushed its lead to 53-45 on a pair of free throws by Patterson with 9:49 remaining before holding off the Bobcats. Texas State closed the gap to 57-55 after Johnson made one of two free throws, but the Lions answered as Jason Marks converted on a basket and Sullivan added three free throws to a 62-55 lead with 4:02 left.

Ryan White added 15 points for Texas State, which finished 19-for-64 from the floor (29.7 percent) for the game. The Bobcats held a 39-37 advantage on the glass, including 17 offensive rebounds, which led to 13 second chance points.

Southeastern finished 20-for-43 from the floor (46.5 percent) and was 30-for-45 from the free throw line. The Bobcats were 22-for-27 from the charity stripe in a game that featured a combined 53 fouls, including 38 in the second half.

Southeastern will return to action on Saturday when it travels to face UTSA in a 2 p.m. contest in San Antonio, Texas. The game will be televised on the Southland Conference Television Network.
