RUSTON –
Southeastern Louisiana junior Tamra Ladnier and sophomore Jordan Logan had three hits apiece, but the Lady Lions suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Louisiana Tech in the season openers for both teams Tuesday evening at the Louisiana Tech Softball Complex.

Big innings in both games sank the hopes of Southeastern (0-2). Louisiana Tech (2-0) used a three-run third inning to take a 5-1 win in game one. In the nightcap, the Techsters scored four runs in the bottom of the first to complete the sweep with a 6-2 victory.

Senior Amber Freeman also had two hits for the Lady Lions. The Southeastern offensive attack was hampered by the absence of preseason All-Southland Conference selection junior Katie Duhe and fellow starter senior Chelsea Takacs. The Lady Lion duo missed the opening two games due to illness.

Southeastern head coach Pete Langlois saw some positive things in his team's first action of the season.

“We were really pleased with the efforts of Jordan and Tamra at the plate,” Langlois commented. “Jordan and Michelle Duhe were both extremely impressive in the outfield defensively. With the exception of those two bad innings, we played well and we were encouraged with what we saw – especially considering how many new players we had out there today.”

Southeastern will be back in action on Wednesday, facing Southern at 12 p.m. in Baton Rouge.

Game 1 – Louisiana Tech 5, Southeastern Louisiana 1
After both teams were sat down in order in the first, Southeastern mounted the first threat in the top of the second. With one out, freshman Kelsey Nichols and sophomore Lauren Coniglio drew consecutive walks to give the Lady Lions a pair of base runners. However, junior ace Meghan Krieg (1-0) retired the next two Lady Lions to keep Southeastern off the board.

Louisiana Tech scored an unearned run off of Southeastern senior Catherine Gunther (0-1) in the bottom of the second inning. Kylie Bassett reached on a Ladnier error to open the inning and later scored on a two-out single by Valerie Quiroga to give the Techsters a 1-0 lead.

A single by Freeman and a two-out walk to sophomore Meghan Gomez gave Southeastern two base runners in the top of the third, but Southeastern again was held at bay. In the bottom of the inning, an RBI single by senior Amberly Waits and a two-run single by senior Jessica Kirby pushed the Louisiana Tech lead to 4-0.

Southeastern took advantage of two errors to score its first run in the top of the fifth. Logan reached on an error and advanced to second on a throwing error by Krieg. Two outs later, Nichols recorded her first RBI as a Lady Lion, plating Logan to cut the lead to 4-1.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Bassett doubled off Southeastern junior Bailey Zievert with one out and scored on a single by junior Heather Doiron to push the lead back to four runs.

Southeastern had base runners in each of the final two innings, but left them stranded. Krieg forced Southeastern to leave 11 on base after surrendering five walks and scattering four hits in a complete game six-strikeout effort.

Game Two – Louisiana Tech 6, Southeastern Louisiana 2
Southeastern jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first off of Louisiana Tech freshman Michelle Jones (1-0). Logan singled to lead off the game, advanced to second on a sac bunt by Michelle Duhe and scored on a double by Ladnier.

Louisiana Tech came right back with four runs off Lady Lion sophomore Katelyn Thomason (0-1). The first three batters of the inning reached and freshman Kallan Thompson scored on a Kirby sacrifice fly to tie the game. With two outs, junior Claire Gibson cleared the bases with a three-run double to put Louisiana Tech up, 4-1.

The two pitchers settled in over the next several innings before Louisiana Tech padded its advantage in the bottom of the fifth inning. Sophomore Kendra Harmon led off the inning with a single and later scored on a throwing error by Freeman to put the Techsters up, 5-1.

Southeastern cut into the lead in the top of the sixth inning. Ladnier led off the frame with a home run down the left field line to pull Southeastern within three, 5-2.

Louisiana Tech got the run back in the bottom of the sixth inning. Doiron opened the inning with a single off of freshman Kati Morse and later scored on an RBI single by sophomore Amanda Parsonage to go back up by four. A Logan single was all Southeastern could manage in the top of the seventh inning.
