CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –
For the third time in its last four games, the Southeastern Louisiana softball team came up on the wrong end of a low-scoring affair, as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Lauren Sanders singled the game-winning run home in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving the Lady Islanders a 2-1 victory in the rubber game of a Southland Conference series Sunday afternoon at Chapman Field.

The Lady Lions fell to 19-30 overall and 7-20 in SLC play with the loss. A&M-Corpus Christi ran its overall mark to 22-30 and improved to 11-15 in league action.

Southeastern freshman Lauren Coniglio doubled home the Lady Lions' only run off Lady Islander starter Addie Tallman (19-15), who pitched all 21 innings of the weekend series and held Southeastern to five hits in the series finale.

The Lady Lions also received a solid performance in the circle on Sunday. Southeastern sophomore Bailey Zievert and freshman Katelyn Thomason (6-10) allowed nine hits, but only two runs to the Lady Islanders.

Southeastern jumped to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Sophomore Kelly Lyman led off the frame with an RBI double. After Tallman bounced back to retire the next two batters, Coniglio ripped a double to score Lyman and give the Lady Lions a 1-0 advantage.

The Lady Islanders tied the score in the bottom of the third inning. Larissa Martin plated the team's first run with a two-out RBI single. Cassie Redman reached on a fielder's choice and stole second before scoring on Martin's hit.

TAMUCC looked to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Singles by Kim Connelly and Andrea Simancas put runners at first and second with two outs. Sanders followed with an infield single, but Connelly was too aggressive and was gunned by sophomore Katie Duhe trying to score from second to end the inning.

Neither team mounted a significant scoring threat until Southeastern put together a rally attempt in the top of the seventh inning. Coniglio reached on a two-out single and advanced to second when senior Allyson McCubbins drew her single-season school record 31st walk of the season. However, Tallman kept the score tied, forcing sophomore Tamra Ladnier to ground out to end the inning.

Simancas keyed the Lady Islanders' winning effort in the bottom of the seventh inning, leading off the frame with a triple to right centerfield. Sanders then singled up the middle to give the Lady Islanders the win.

Southeastern will hit the road for the final time on Wednesday, heading to Southern Miss for a 6 p.m. contest in Hattiesburg, Miss. The Lady Lions will close out the 2009 season at home, hosting UT Arlington for a three-game SLC weekend series at North Oak Park. The series opens with a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and concludes with a 12 p.m. contest on Sunday. Prior to Sunday's contest, McCubbins and Heather Sherrill will be honored in a pre-game Senior Day ceremony.
