HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana stranded eight runners on base in the first game and was limited to three hits in the second as it dropped a Southland Conference doubleheader to Central Arkansas on Saturday at North Oak Park.

In the opener, UCA (12-12, 4-1 SLC) used a five-run seventh-inning to pull away to a 6-2 victory before Kelly Martino and Cami Newsome combined on a three-hitter for a 2-1 win in the nightcap.

Both teams conclude their series on Sunday with a single game at noon. Live in-game statistics will be available at www.LionSports.net.

GAME 1 – UCA 6, Southeastern 2
Southeastern (7-11, 0-5 SLC) collected seven hits in the opener off UCA Holli Hill (7-6), but stranded two runners in the second, fourth and sixth innings. Hill, who pitched a complete game, fanned nine batters and walked three in recording her sixth complete game of the season.

UCA broke open a scoreless tie in the second when Katie McGregor led off with a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored two batters later when Sarah Garcia's hit off Catherine Gunther (1-5) glanced off the glove of Heather Sherrill and into left field.

Southeastern put two runners on in the second as Allyson McCubbins and Katie Duhe each drew walks. Sherrill reached on a fielder's choice and would advance to third on a wild pitch, but Hill got out of the inning when she fanned Lauren Coniglio.

McCubbins and Duhe each collected singles in the fourth and the Lady Lions threatened again, but Hill again got out of a jam when she fanned Kelly Lyman and Chelsea Takacs to end the frame.

After Hill got out of her third jam in the sixth, UCA put the game away in the seventh when the first six hitters reached on singles with Kasey Britt's two-run single the key blow in the inning.

Duhe led Southeastern at the plate going 2-for-2 with a walk. Freshman Meghan Gomez delivered a two-run double in the seventh for Southeastern while Gunther scattered eight hits in six innings of work.

GAME 2 – UCA 2, Southeastern 1
UCA scored its first run when Luisa Escobar singled, stole second, moved to third on a sacrifice and scored on an illegal pitch by Southeastern starter Bailey Zievert (1-1). The Bears added an insurance run in the fifth when Garcia hit a two-out double that scored pinch-runner Audra Finley.

That was enough for Martino (4-4), who held Southeastern to three hits in five innings before Newcome pitched the final two frames for her second save. Martino gave up a second-inning double to Sherrill and a one-out single to Jordan Logan in the third before retiring eight straight batters.

The Lady Lions chased Martino in the sixth after Logan reached on an error by Garcia and Duhe laced a single to left field. After Tamra Ladnier moved the runners over on a sacrifice bunt, Newsome hit Gomez with a pitch to load the bases but got out of the inning as McCubbins hit an RBI ground out and Sherrill grounded back to the circle to retire the side.

Katelyn Thomason held UCA in check, scattering three hits in 5.1 innings of relief.
