JACKSON, Miss. – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team snapped its six-game losing streak with a 5-3 extra-inning win over Jackson State Wednesday evening at the Jackson State Softball Stadium.

The Lady Lions (8-12) got the win after sophomore Katie Duhe doubled home two runs in the top of the eighth inning. Junior Catherine Gunther (2-6) threw a complete-game three-hitter to earn the win for the Lady Lions.

Southeastern jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Senior Heather Sherrill led off the inning with her school record 41st double of the season. Junior Kady King, junior Chelsea Takacs and freshman Jordan Logan all singled home runs in the inning to stake Southeastern to a 3-0 lead.

Jackson State got back into it in the bottom of the third inning. Amanda Boggan singled home the first Lady Tiger run and two more runs scored on a throwing error by senior Allyson McCubbins to tie the score at 3-3.

Both Gunther and JSU starter Brittanie Talley kept the opposing lineups at bay until Southeastern broke through in the eighth inning. Freshman Meghan Gomez was placed on second to start the inning and McCubbins reached on an error. Duhe then cleared the bases with her team-best seventh double of the season.

Gunther sat JSU down in order in the bottom of the eighth to secure the win.

Southeastern will remain on the road this weekend for a three-game Southland Conference series at defending SLC regular season champion Texas State. The series opens with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, followed by Sunday's series finale set for 12 p.m.
