TROY, Ala. – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team split a pair of game on the final day of the Troy Trojan Classic Saturday afternoon at the Troy Softball Field.

The Southeastern bats came alive in the day's first game. Southeastern (7-7) scored eight runs in the final two innings on the way to a 10-6 win over Appalachian State (4-8). In the nightcap, a six-run fifth allowed Troy (13-4) to pull away for a 9-1 victory.

Southeastern will be back home on Wednesday, hosting Louisiana Tech for a 3 p.m. doubleheader at North Oak Park.

Game One – Southeastern Louisiana 10, Appalachian State 6
Neither team could crack the scoreboard until the Lady Lions broke through in the bottom of the third inning versus ASU pitcher Kayla Richardson. Junior Chelsea Takacs led off the frame with a single and junior Amber Freeman reached on an error to put runners at the corners with two outs. Sophomore Tamra Ladnier cleared the bases with a two-run double to put the Lady Lions on top, 2-0.

Southeastern padded its lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Freshman Meghan Gomez singled home the inning's first run. Senior Allyson McCubbins followed with an RBI double and senior Heather Sherrill capped the scoring with a run-scoring single to put the Lady Lions up, 5-0.

Southeastern freshman Katelyn Thomason held ASU scoreless until the top of the sixth inning. ASU took advantage of three passed balls and a wild pitch to come back and tie the score at 5-5.

Freshman Lauren Coniglio led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and later scored on an RBI double by freshman Jordan Logan. McCubbins was hit by a pitch to force in the inning's second run. Later in the frame, sophomore Katie Duhe singled home another run and Takacs followed with a two-run single to put Southeastern up 10-6.

Appalachian State scored on a two-out RBI double by Michelle Lighton in the top of the seventh. But, junior Jenna Yoder closed the door by forcing Stephanie Long to ground out to Ladnier to end the game.

Game Two – Troy 9, Southeastern Louisiana 1
Troy jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning. A two-run home run by Johnson off Yoder put the Lady Trojans up, 2-0.

Southeastern cut into the lead in the top of the second inning. Duhe drew a two-out walk, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Takacs to cut the lead to 2-1.

The score would remain the same until Troy broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning. A two-run home run by Johnson, RBI doubles by Sarah Harris and Tasha Elmore and two Duhe errors allowed Troy to score six runs in the inning and take a commanding 8-1 lead.

An RBI single by Johnson in the bottom of the sixth inning allowed the Lady Trojans to enforce the mercy rule.
