Texas State Rallies For Wild Win Over Lions, 84-82

Southeastern hosts UTSA in televised game Saturday

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Cameron Johnson scored 22 points and Texas State rallied in the second half to claim a wild 84-82 Southland Conference victory over Southeastern Wednesday night at Strahan Coliseum.

Brandon Bush added 16 points and John Rybak 14 as Texas State (10-11, 3-5 SLC) defeated Southeastern (9-12, 3-5 SLC) at home for the first time since the 2000-01 season. Damon Forest led Southeastern with a season-high 15 points while Robert Tibbs added 13.

Southeastern led 45-42 at halftime as it shot 18-for-28 in the opening half while holding the Bobcats to 12-for-32 (37.5 percent). Texas State took the lead for good, 55-54, on Johnson's layup with 14:15 remaining in the game and the Bobcats stretched their lead to 81-66 on Dylan Moseley's 3-pointer at the 4:35 mark.

Southeastern responded as it cut the lead to 83-81 on a free throw by Tibbs with 20.3 seconds left. Brandon Fortenberry hit one of two free throws to cut the lead to 83-82 with 15.3 seconds remaining.

Texas State's Ryan White sank one of two free throws with 13.5 seconds left for an 84-82 lead, but the Lions were unable to get off a final shot in dropping their second straight game.

Chris Cyprian added 12 points for Southeastern with David Ndoumba adding 10. The Lions held a 34-31 advantage in rebounds, but Texas State grabbed 16 offensive boards that led to a 19-4 advantage in second-chance points.

Southeastern will return to action on Saturday when it hosts UTSA in a 2 p.m. contest at the University Center. The game, which is Southeastern's first-ever “Black Out” game, will be televised on the Southland Television Network.
