TROY, Ala. – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team went 1-1 on the opening day of the Troy Trojan Classic Friday afternoon at the Troy Softball Field.

Bailey Zievert (1-0) picked up her first collegiate victory, scattering nine hits, striking out four and allowing no earned runs in a complete-game effort.
In the nightcap, Troy (10-4) used a four-run seventh inning to blow open a close game and defeat Southeastern, 6-0. Trojan pitcher Allison Moore (3-1) struck out 10 Lady Lions and held Southeastern to two hits – singles by senior
Heather Sherrill and sophomore
Tamra Ladnier.

Game One – Southeastern Louisiana 4, Appalachian State 1
Appalachian State took advantage of a Southeastern error to score off Zievert in the bottom of the first inning. Megan Rembielak reached on a one-out bunt single and advanced to second on an error by Lady Lion second baseman
Amber Freeman. With two outs in the inning, Brittany Gaston singled home Rembielak to stake ASU to a 1-0 lead.
Southeastern did not get its first hit off ASU starter Yancy Moose (0-1) until the fourth inning. With one out, Moose hit
Katie Duhe to give Southeastern only its second base runner of the game. One out later, McCubbins hammered her third home run of the season to give the Lady Lions a 2-1 lead.
Southeastern added to its lead in the top of the fifth inning. Sophomore
Kelly Lyman led off the inning with a single and advanced to third on consecutive fly outs. With two outs, Appalachian State catcher Lindsay Whitlock surrendered a passed ball to allow Lyman to push the Southeastern advantage to 3-1.
The Lady Lions added an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning. Gomez led off the frame with her third home run of the season, tying McCubbins for the team lead. All three of the Alvin, Texas native's round trippers have come in the last five games.
ASU threatened in each of the final two innings. In the sixth, singles by Gaston and Whitlock put runners at first and second with one out. Zievert recovered with consecutive ground outs to end the threat. In the seventh, Katie Boyd roped a two-out double, but Zievert forced Ashley Stubbs to ground out to preserve the victory.
Game Two – Troy 6, Southeastern Louisiana 0
Troy scored its first run off Southeastern starter
Catherine Gunther (1-3) in the top of the second inning. With one out, Nikki Hollett hit a solo home run over the centerfield fence to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Lions looked to mount a threat in the bottom of the second, as Sherrill reached on a one-out single. However, Moore came back to retire Ladnier and freshman
Lauren Coniglio to keep Southeastern scoreless.
Gunther kept the Trojans at bay until the top of the sixth inning. Heidi Johnson led off the inning with a ground-rule double and scored on a sacrifice fly later in the inning by Hayden Gann, giving Troy a 2-0 lead.
Any hope of a Southeastern comeback was ended in the top of the seventh. Felicia Hammer started the rally with a one-out walk, advancing to second when Sarah Shields followed with a single. Kala Moore then cleared the bases with a triple to push the Troy lead to four. One out later, Johnson homered to put Troy up, 6-0.
Troy retired Southeastern in order in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the shutout.
