JACKSON, Miss. –
Trent Hutchin scored a game-high 20 points to lead three players in double figures and Southeastern Louisiana matched its best seven-game start since 1982-83 as it defeated Jackson State, 77-55, in a nonconference game Saturday at the Williams Assembly Center.

Brandon Fortenberry added 11 points and seven assists for Southeastern (6-1) while Patrick Sullivan added 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds. All twelve players who dressed for Southeastern scored as the Lions won their fourth straight game overall and third in a row over Jackson State (0-6).

“This was a very impressive win on the road for us against a team that is better than what their record says,” Southeastern head coach Jim Yarbrough said. “They have played some tough opponents early, including two winnable games with (Southland Conference rival) Stephen F. Austin. Our team really played with focus and determination and did the things needed to win on the road.”

Southeastern turned a 7-4 first-half deficit into a 23-11 lead as Hutchin drained three 3-pointers in the stretch. The former Woodlawn High product finished 7-for-14 from the floor and went 6-for-11 from behind the arc as the Lions built a 41-28 lead at halftime.

A 3-pointer by Hutchin with 16:44 remaining gave Southeastern a 49-29 lead and Jackson State never got closer than 16 points the remainder of the game. After a bucket by Tyrone Hanson cut the JSU deficit to 64-45 with 4:47 left, Southeastern put the game away with an 11-3 run that began with Hutchin's final 3-pointer of the contest and capped by two free throws by David Ndoumba for a 75-48 cushion.

Ndoumba added nine points and eight rebounds for Southeastern, which shot 44 percent from the floor and dominated the glass with a 41-24 rebounding advantage. Gary Dixon added eight points for Southeastern while Fortenberry added six rebounds and three steals.

Garrison Johnson led JSU with 14 points while Hanson and De'Suan Dixon added eight points each. The Tigers, who earlier faced Memphis, Alabama and North Texas among its first five opponents, were held to 30 percent shooting (17-for-56) from the floor.

Southeastern will take a nine-day break for final exams before returning to action on Dec. 14. The Lions will face in-state rival LSU in a 7 p.m. contest at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center before hosting Southern University on Dec. 16 in a 7 p.m. contest.
