HAMMOND – After cruising to an easy 49-point victory in its opening contest of the 2009-10 season, the Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team will return to action on Monday when it hosts Sun Belt Conference member Florida Atlantic at the University Center.
Tipoff, which will follow the Southeastern women's home opener against William Carey, is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. The game can be heard on the internet at www.LionSports.net.
Southeastern (1-0), which will play at Mississippi State on Thursday, opened the season with a 99-50 rout of the University of Science and Arts (Okla.) on Friday as four players scored in double figures.
Damon Forest came off the bench to score a game-high 19 points for the Lions, who shot 55 percent from the floor and drained 10 3-pointers.
Patrick Sullivan added a double-double for the Lions with 18 points and 10 rebounds while adding three blocked shots. Newcomers
Trent Hutchin and
Gary Dixon added 13 and 11 points each in their respective Southeastern debut while
Deshawn Patterson dished out six assists.
FAU (1-0), a brief rival of Southeastern when both schools were in the Trans America Athletic Conference, opened its season on Friday with an 86-63 victory over Florida Tech. Five-foot-6 freshman Raymond Taylor scored 17 point to lead five players in double figures while grabbing a team-high seven rebounds and dishing out 10 assists.
Shavar Richardson and Greg Gantt added 14 points each for the Owls, who built a 51-25 lead at halftime and shot 44 percent from the floor for the game. Sanchez Hughley scored 13 points for FAU and Brett Royster added 10 points and four blocks.
FAU won last year's meeting between the teams, 72-58, as the Owls shot 59 percent from the floor – the best shooting performance against Southeastern in 2008-09.
