LADY LION VOLLEYBALL READIES FOR BAYOU SHOWDOWN

Southeastern volleyball continues road trip at UL-Monroe Tournament

Sophomore libero Alex Greer ranks 11th in the nation with 0.75 aces per set
Hammond -  Following two hard-fought losses to open the 2008 season, head coach Julie Langford said her Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team's (0-2) confidence is high as the Lady Lions prepare for the Adidas Lady Warhawk Bayou Showdown this weekend.

The Lady Lions faced a two sets to none deficit in the season opener against South Alabama before winning the third set and falling two points short of forcing a fifth set on Aug. 30.  Meanwhile, following a ten-day layoff and a pair of cancellations due to Hurricane Gustav, Southeastern faced a makeup match at Southern Miss and fell in straight sets to the Lady Eagles despite being within three at the end of each set.

“We're very encouraged by the focus and concentration shown by our team during the early part of the season,” Langford said.  “Our players have battled and not given in and done everything we've asked of them.  The way we fought back against South Alabama and the way we battled Southern Miss were good signs.  Our chemistry is continuing to develop and our new setters are starting to fit in nicely with our offense, so it's just a matter of time before all this work pays off.”

Southeastern gets the weekend started with a Friday night match against host UL-Monroe (0-5) at 7 p.m. before a quick turnaround pits the Lady Lions against Missouri-Kansas City (2-7) at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

All three squads will be well motivated entering the weekend tournament.  The Lady Warhawks will be looking for their first win of the season after dropping five straight to start off, meanwhile the Kangaroos will look to snap a three-match losing streak.

“I think we have the chance to match up well against these teams,” Langford said.  “After the types of matches we've played and seeing how focused we are in practice, we're playing with a lot more confidence right now.”
