HAMMOND – After picking up its first road win of the season with a victory at Southern on Tuesday, the Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team returns to action Saturday as it looks to remain unbeaten at home when it faces Southern of New Orleans at the University Center.
Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.
Southeastern (3-3) evened its record with an 84-75 win at Southern in Baton Rouge for its first road win in four tries. The Lions enjoyed a 29-point lead in the first half and led 56-32 at halftime before a blistering performance from behind the 3-point line for Southern closed the gap to as little as seven points.
Kevyn Green scored a game-high 25 points to lead four players in double figures for Southeastern with
Warrell Span adding 16 points.
Patrick Sullivan, who is four blocks from tying Thelander Tillman for the Southeastern career lead, added a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds and Hammond's
Chris Cyprian chipped in with 11 points
Southeastern shot 37-for-69 from the floor (54 percent) as it topped the 50-percent mark for the second consecutive game. The Lions also controlled the boards against Southern with a 38-35 advantage.
Green, the Southland Conference leader in scoring, paces Southeastern at 21.7 points per game with Span (12.5), Sullivan (10.5), Cyprian (10.2) and freshman
Brandon Fortenberry (7.2) rounding out the starting lineup. Span leads the Lions with 7.7 rebounds per contest while Fortenberry is averaging 5.8 assists per game.
Southeastern rallied for a 57-44 victory over SUNO (0-5) in the first-ever meeting between the schools last season in the University Center. Span scored a team-high 14 points and the Lions overcame a turnover-plagued contest using a 19-4 run over the final 7:40 to earn the win.
