Box Score AUBURN, Ala. – DeWayne Reed scored a game-high 20 points to lead four Auburn players in double figures and the Tigers used a 24-4 run in the first half to pull away and defeat Southeastern Louisiana, 77-65, Wednesday afternoon at Beard-Eaves Coliseum.
Lucas Hargrove added 13 points for Auburn (9-4), which forced 22 turnovers to win its sixth straight game. Tay Waller added 12 points for the Tigers while Korvotney Barber recorded his third double-double in the past four games with 10 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
Southeastern (6-6), playing the first of two straight games against SEC opponents, erased a 9-6 deficit as it outscored Auburn, 17-2, over a 4:57 span and built a 23-12 lead. Robert Tibbs scored 10 consecutive points, including two 3-pointers for Southeastern while Chris Cyprian and Patrick Sullivan added baskets during the run.
A 3-pointer by Kevyn Green gave the Lions a 23-12 lead with 9:09 remaining in the first half before Auburn roared back. Barber opened a 13-0 run with two free throws before Waller was fouled on a 3-point attempt and made all three shots to close the gap to 25-20.
Barber and Reed added buckets for Auburn before Waller sank two free throws to help the Tigers reclaim the lead at 26-25. The Tigers pushed their lead to 35-27 on a free throw by Hargrove and led 39-31 on a Barber bucket before a 3-pointer by Cyprian cut the Auburn lead to 39-34.
Southeastern trailed 43-36 in the second half before a 10-0 run gave the Lions a 46-43 lead. Cyprian hit one of two free throws to start the run before hitting consecutive 3-pointers to forge a 43-43 tie with 17:36 remaining.
Green, who led Southeastern with 17 points, gave the Lions a 46-43 lead with a 3-pointer with 17:11 left before Hargrove answered with a 3-pointer and Reed followed with a layup to give Auburn a 48-46 lead it would not relinquish.
Cyprian added 12 points for Southeastern while Tibbs finished with 10. The Lions shot a season-low 11-for-26 (42 percent) from the free throw line while Auburn, which entered the game shooting 58 percent from the charity stripe as a team, went a solid 27-for-39 (69 percent).
Southeastern returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Baton Rouge to face in-state rival LSU in a 7 p.m. contest at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
