Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – Southeastern Louisiana's
Patrick Sullivan posted a double-double with a season-high 19 points with 10 rebounds, but a poor second half on both ends of the floor helped Florida Atlantic pull away and post a 72-58 win Saturday night at FAU Arena.
Paul Graham scored 19 points for FAU (4-5), which snapped a four-game losing streak, while Shavar Richardson added 13. Southeastern, which had its three-game win streak snapped, fell to 4-4 overall.
Southeastern shot 54 percent (13-for-24) from the floor in the first half, but went 10-for-31 (32.3 percent) in the second half to finish at 42 percent for the game. Defensively, Southeastern was unable to stop FAU as the Owls were 14-for-19 (73.7 percent) in the second half and finished 29-for-49 (59.2 percent) for the game.
FAU snapped a 38-38 deadlock in the second half as it went on a 12-0 run to take a 50-38 lead with 12:55 remaining in the game. Carderro Nwoji's layup at the 16:04 mark put the Owls ahead for good, 40-38, before Alex Tucker converted on a three-point play, Graham scored on a jumper and 3-pointer before Nwoji ended the decisive run with two free throws.
The Owls extended their lead to 56-40 on a pair of free throws by Tucker before Southeastern chipped away at the lead, closing to 61-52 on a putback by
Kevyn Green.
Sullivan, playing in his home state for the first time in two years, recorded his eighth career double-double and blocked two shots to increase his Southeastern career total to 130 – one shy of Thelander Tillman's school record.
Green added 15 points for the Lions while
Warrell Span added 10. The Lions went 1-for-11 from behind the 3-point line, including 0-for-8 in the second half.
Southeastern will return to action on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. when it faces Millsaps College in the nightcap of a doubleheader. The Lady Lions open the twinbill at 5:30 as they host Southern University.
