Lions Visit Music City To Face Lipscomb

Southeastern rallied for 66-61 win last season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After opening its home schedule with an impressive win, the Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team returns to action on Thursday when it faces Atlantic Sun Conference member Lipscomb at Allen Arena.

Tipoff is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern (1-1), which begins a two-game road trip that ends Tuesday at Big 12 opponent Texas Tech, picked up its first win of the season with a 95-69 win over Division II Miles College on Monday behind 19 points from Kevyn Green and 17 from true freshman DeShawn Patterson. Warrell Span added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Lions, who led from wire-to-wire and led by as many as 28 in the game.

Green leads Southeastern in scoring at 20.0 points per game with Span (18.0), Patrick Sullivan (11.0) and Patterson (10.5) next. Robert Tibbs (9.0), Chris Cyprian (8.5) and true freshman Brandon Fortenberry (6.5) are next in scoring for Southeastern, which has averaged 91.0 points in its first games.

Lipscomb (1-1), which finished fifth in the A-Sun last season, opened its season last Saturday with a 121-54 win over Oakland City (Ind.) University before dropping an 83-72 contest on Monday to in-state rival Tennessee Tech. Thomas Pfaff scored a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Bison with Michael Teller adding 18 points.

Pfaff, who is shooting 67 percent from the floor in the first two games, and Teller are averaging 16.0 points each to lead the Bison. Brandon Brown and Brian Wright are next in scoring at 11.5 points with Jimmy Oden (11.0) and Josh Slater (10.0) next.

Southeastern earned a 66-61 win over Lipscomb last season in the University Center despite 17 points and 12 rebounds from Brown. The Lions overcame a physical contest in which it was held to 37 percent shooting from the floor – its second-lowest of the season – including a 7-for-29 performance (24 percent) in the first half.
