BATON ROUGE -
The Southeastern Louisiana University women's volleyball team (10-16, 3-11 Southland Conference) hit .289 as a team, and rallied after dropping the opening set to beat Southern (8-17) 3-2 by scores of 26-28, 25-13, 25-19, 18-25, 15-7 for the Lady Lions' tenth win of the season.

With the win, the Lady Lions, who went 10-18 in 2007, posted consecutive ten win seasons for the first time since 2002 (18-14) and 2003 (15-16), snapped a four-match losing streak and laid the foundation for the season's final homestand.

However, things didn't start well for Southeastern as Southern took control in the first set.  Senior right side hitter Jessica Srajer paced the Lady Lion offensive attack with a .333 hitting percentage (5-2-9) and posted five of her 15 kills in the first set.  Meanwhile, junior middle blocker LaToya Anthony helped the Southeastern cause with five first set kills of her own.

Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to overcome the Jaguar offense as Southern forced 10 ties and five lead changes in the opening frame before claiming a 28-26 win in the opener.

Southeastern got back on track in the second set as the Lady Lions jumped out to a 13-6 lead.  Junior right side hitter Lauren Mayer totaled five kills in the second set to lead the way and junior setter Katie Collins totaled 12 of her 56 assists to set the table in a set that saw the Lady Lions hit .667 (13-1-18) as a team en route to a 25-13 win.

Southeastern kept rolling in the third with Collins tallying 15 assists to set things up for an offense that hit .333 (16-6-33) on the way to a 25-19 third frame victory.

Southern rallied to force a fifth set, however, by taking control in the fourth with their best offensive performance of the night.  The Jaguars posted a .316 team hitting percentage (9-3-19) in a hard-fought match that saw Southeastern fall 25-18 to force a winner-take-all fifth frame.

Looking to end their longest roadtrip of the season with a win, the Lady Lions took control in the fifth with an early 11-4 run.  Freshman middle blocker Paige Dollison led the way with an .800 hitting percentage (4-0-5) with Collins contributing five assists to lead Southeastern to a 15-7 win and a 3-2 decision.

With their six-match roadtrip completed, the Lady Lions will now return to Hammond for their final two matches of the 2008 regular season.  Southeastern will host Stephen F. Austin on Thursday at 7 p.m. before Saturday's 2 p.m. Senior Day match against McNeese State wraps up the regular season.  Admission to the University Center for both matches is free to all fans.  Live stats will be available at www.LionSports.net
