Southeastern Volleyball Looks for Season Sweep at Northwestern State

Lady Lions look to make it 2-0 against Demons

HAMMOND - After a 3-1 loss on Thursday at Central Arkansas, the Southeastern Louisiana University women's volleyball team (9-13, 3-8 Southland Conference) will look to rebound with a chance to sweep the season series against in-state rival Northwestern State (9-12, 4-7 SLC) on Saturday.

The Lady Lions were 3-1 victors when the two squads faced each other Oct. 3 in Hammond, and, with Southeastern sitting one game out of the eighth and final SLC Tournament spot, Saturday's match presents the Lady Lions with a chance to get back into the tournament picture.

Saturday's match also marks the halfway point of the Lady Lions' longest road trip of the season.  The six-game swing includes four conference matches and keeps Southeastern on the road from Oct. 27 through Nov. 11.

"We played well our last time out against Northwestern State," head coach Julie Langford said.  "Hopefully, we can repeat that performance.  We have a chance to match up well against some of these teams in our next few matches.  Being on the road is tough, but we should be very competitive.  At the start of the season, we set a goal of making the conference tournament, and if we want to do that, we are going to have to get some wins on the road."

First serve between Southeastern and Northwestern State is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday.  After the rematch with the Demons, the Lady Lions will head to Texas A&M Corpus Christi (3-16, 1-8 SLC) on Nov. 7 and Texas-San Antonio (15-9, 7-3 SLC) on Nov. 8.  After a non-conference match at Southern on Nov. 11, Southeastern will wrap up the 2008 regular season at home against SLC East Division leader Stephen F. Austin (16-6, 7-3 SLC) on Nov. 13 and McNeese State (8-13, 4-5 SLC).
