Southeastern Volleyball Breaks From Conference Slate

Lady Lions Head to Alcorn State for Monday Night Match

HAMMOND - The Southeastern Louisiana University women's volleyball team (8-12, 3-7 Southland Conference) will take a break from the SLC schedule when they head north for a Monday matchup against Alcorn State in Lorman, Miss to kick off a six-match road trip.

The Lady Lions, who dropped a 3-0 decision to Texas State on Sunday will try to return to the form that saw them defeat SLC West rival Texas-Arlington by a 3-0 score on Friday.  It was Southeastern's first straight-set win over a conference foe since Oct. 11, 2005 against Nicholls State.

The Lady Lions will look to pull to within two matches of .500 with a win on Monday and help set the tone for an attempted run at making the conference tournament for the first time since 2002.  Southeastern currently sits in a tie for the eighth and final conference tournament spot with Nicholls State with six Southland Conference matches remaining.

After Monday's match, the Lady Lions will continue their longest road trip of 2008.  Southeastern will return to conference play with matches at SLC East Division rivals Central Arkansas (Oct. 30), Northwestern State (Nov. 1) before heading west to take on  Texas A&M Corpus Christi (Nov. 7) and Texas-San Antonio (Nov. 8).  After a Nov. 11 make-up contest at Southern, Southeastern will wrap up the 2008 regular season by hosting Stephen F. Austin (Nov. 13) and McNeese State (Nov. 15).
