Southeastern Looks to Snap Two-Game Skid Against Sam Houston

Lady Lion Volleyball Hosts Bearkats in Southland Action

HAMMOND - The Southeastern Louisiana University women's volleyball team (6-9, 1-4 Southland Conference) returns to the University Center on Tuesday night, looking to snap a two-match losing streak following their first conference roadtrip last weekend.  However, despite dropping their first two SLC road matches and facing a game opponent in Sam Houston State (8-13, 3-2 SLC), head coach Julie Langford believes her squad is up to task for Tuesday night's matchup.

"We played well at times this past weekend," Langford said.  "We passed well and our hitters did a better job converting out-of-system.  We want to see our setters connecting with out middles and we want to see better blocking all around, but we saw things we can build on from our last time out."

The Lady Lions will look to rebound after losses at McNeese State (3-0 on Friday) and Stephen F. Austin (3-1 on Saturday) over the weekend.  In addition to ending its own streak, Southeastern will try to snap a three-game winning streak that the Lady Bearkats are riding into the University Center.

The Bearkats, who have beaten SLC foes Texas-Arlington, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Texas-San Antonio in a weeklong span, offer some interesting challanges for the Lady Lions, but Langford remains confident in her team.

"Sam Houston is a very versatile team," Langford said.  "They bring a lot of different offensive looks, which makes them very hard to scout.  No one knows what kind of offense they are running until they get out on the court.  We need to stay quick on our feet and come out right away and play the way we want to.  We can't react to what they do.  We need them to react to us.  If we can control the tempo and come ready, it could be a fun match."

First serve for the Lady Lions and Lady Bearkats is set for 7 p.m. at the University Center in Hammond.  Live stats will be available on www.LionSports.net
