After surrendering a leadoff home run Saturday to Lamar, Corey Gaconi shut down the Cardinals the rest of the way. Gaconi (2-0) went the distance to earn the win. A junior from New Orleans, Louisiana, he allowed one run on six hits and did not walk a batter. Gaconi struck out five. During the game the right-hander had strings of seven, eight and eight consecutive batters retired.
