In just over a half of play, Bennett, a Walter Payton Award candidate, amassed over 400 yards of total offense in a season-opening 44-3 victory over Jacksonville. He threw for 311 yards and touchdowns to juniors Dylan Bossier (89 yards) and Rasheed Harrell (73 yards). His connection with Bossier was the longest of his career and the fourth-longest in school history. He also broke off a career-long 83-yard touchdown run and led the Lions with 93 rushing yards.
