Ed Groth joined the Southeastern Louisiana University football coaching staff as special teams coordinator prior to the 2026 season.
Groth came to Hammond after spending the 2025 season coaching linebackers and special teams at Post University. At Post, he coached all-conference performers at punt returner, punter, kicker and linebacker.
Prior to Post, he spent the 2023 and 2024 campaigns at Clarion University, where he was the special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach. He coached an all-region punter and two all-conference wide receivers.
He spent the 2022 season at his alma mater, Central Connecticut State, working with the running backs and serving as the director of football operations. The Blue Devils led the conference in rushing under Groth’s direction.
In 2021, he served as a special teams quality control coach at SLU for a Lions’ team that featured All-American punter Austin Dunlap and advanced to the second round of the NCAA FCS playoffs. He also had coaching stints at Staples (2020) and Greenwich (2018-19) High Schools.
As a player, he was a four-year starter at both punter and kicker at Central Connecticut State, earning all-conference honors. He received his bachelor’s degree in exercise sciences from CCSU in 2017.
