Armed with national championship, Women’s College World Series and regional experience, Lana Bowers joined the Southeastern Louisiana softball program as an assistant coach on head coach Rick Fremin’s staff in July 2018.
Bowers, most recently the head coach at Baton Rouge Community College, oversees the development of the SLU pitchers, while also assisting with the catchers and hitting. During her time at BRCC, her team posted a 3.2 grade point average – the highest in program history. Bowers also oversees the academic development of the Lady Lions.
Prior to taking over BRCC, Bowers spent a season at LSU Eunice as a volunteer assistant coach. She primarily worked with the pitchers and catchers for the Lady Bengals, helping LSU-E win the 2016 NJCAA Division II national championship.
Her collegiate coaching career began at her alma mater, UL Lafayette. The Houston, Texas native was part of a 2014 coaching staff that helped the Ragin’ Cajuns to a Women’s College World Series appearance and the Sun Belt Conference regular season and tournament championships.
2014 marked her second trip to the WCWS. A three-time first team All-Sun Belt Conference catcher from 2007-10, Bowers helped lead UL Lafayette to Oklahoma City in 2008.
A 2010 graduate of UL Lafayette, Bowers earned her bachelor’s degree in political science. She earned her master’s in teaching from Grand Canyon University in 2017.
