Brent Alfred

Former Southeastern track and field letterwinner Brent Alfred begins his third season as an assistant coach on the Lion coaching staff. He will work with the Southeastern distance runners and sprinters.

A native of Slidell, Alfred graduated from Northshore High School where he competed for former Lion record holder Jim Camhout. It was during his time at NHS that Alfred fell in love with track and field.

"I am truly blessed to be doing what I love at the place I love," Alfred said.

While at Southeastern, Alfred competed in the 400- and 800-meter runs and was part of the Lions' record-setting 4x400-meter relay team. He helped the Lions to a second-place showing at the 2008 Southland Conference men's outdoor track and field championships.

Alfred began his coaching career at Tulane where he served as recruiting coordinator. Under the guidance of Green Wave coach Heather Van Norman, Alfred coached three members on the women's side to regional championships with Olivia Kizzee advancing to the NCAA Championships in the 200-meter dash.

He returned to his prep alma mater the following year serving as an assistant before returning to collegiate coaching at Southeastern.

Alfred is married to the former Shari Moody of New Orleans, La., a Southeastern graduate.
