Bob Ricketts, already in his sixth year on the SLU athletic staff, assumed command of the Green and Gold's diamond fortunes in 1973. The 1957 graduate serves the school in a dual capacity, handling offensive line coaching duties in football. Ricketts joined the Lions' coaching staff after being head coach at Copiah-Lincoln (Miss.) Junior College.
He led a resurgence in the program, with an eight-win improvement and a Gulf South Western Division title in his first season. In his third and final season, Ricketts led the Lions to the NCAA Small College World Series and a No. 3 ranking in the final Collegiate Baseball poll.
