The Southeastern Cheerleaders are well rounded individuals who represent the University as well as the community by leading cheers and promoting school spirit on and off campus. The cheerleaders participate in all home football, basketball, and select volleyball games. Being a part of the cheer squad is a full-year commitment beginning and ending in the spring. The Southeastern Cheerleaders consist of both co-ed and all girl cheerleaders.
The cheerleaders compete nationally at UCA College Nationals in Orlando every year in the Small Coed Division 1 and the Open Co-ed Game Day Division. New for the 2025-2026 season, the cheerleaders will also compete in the Division 1 All-Girl.
PREPARING FOR TRYOUTS?
If you do not have any co-ed or all girl stunt experience it is imperative to get some sort of training prior to the tryout clinics. Check with local gyms in your area as well as current college cheerleaders for private lessons.
Stunting: Our co-ed partners are required to have basic stunts such as toss extensions, toss liberties and stretch full-down. In addition it would like to see elite skills. All girl partners must have toss extensions, toss liberties, and toss stretch full-down. In addition some have single-based stunts, and elite skills. It will also work in your favor to be able to stunt with more than just one person.
Tumbling: It is required to have a standing back tuck. Running tumbling ranges from round off back handspring tucks to fulls.
Cheer/Fight Song: If you never cheered for a high school squad it is very important for you to understand and learn how to cheer on a game day. This is very different from competitive cheerleading. We will be looking for how well you lead the crowd: motions, voice projection and natural facial expressions. In addition, it is important to maintain an overall healthy image to become a Southeastern Cheerleader.
Fitness Test: It is required to run a mile for a portion of the tryout process. We encourage the mile to be under 10 minutes, but it is not required. We would like to see a handstand hold within our fitness test.

FIGHT SONG and Diddy
All prospective Southeastern Lionettes must learn the Fight Song and Diddy routine. Below is a video illustration.

The “Spirit of the Southland” Marching Band made its return to Strawberry Stadium in the fall semester of 2004. Playing high energy arrangements and performing innovative drill designs, the band has established itself as the center of spirit and pride at all Lion home games and game day events. The band features a traditional and spirited pre-game show that is now a tradition at Southeastern.
The staff at Southeastern combines university, drum corps, and secondary school teaching experience and is able to offer every student, regardless of experience, an opportunity to grow and learn in a relaxing musical environment. Many of our staff members work closely with local and regional high schools during their summer camps and are in demand throughout the Southeast as clinicians.
Scholarship opportunities are available to all members of the band. Non-music majors can qualify for scholarship awards and priority housing in the newest housing on campus by going online, or by contacting the Department of Music and Performing Arts at (985) 549-2184.
