LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's track & field teams began the NCAA East First Round at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track & Field Facility Wednesday.
 
Gerrit Visser started the meet off in the hammer throw. The graduate student placed 34^th among the 45 competitors in the event. Visser threw for 61.67 meters (202'4") in the event to mark the second-best throw of his collegiate career. The Bocholt, Germany native finished ahead of four Power 4 participants in the event. Visser was also the first Lion to compete in the men's hammer throw in the NCAA East First Round since Terrell Webb threw for 62.75 meters (205'10") in 2024.
 
In the shot put, Josh-Ty Brown made an appearance in Lexington after winning gold at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships. The sophomore closed the event with a throw of 16.93 meters (55'6.5"). The Kingston, Jamaica native placed 42^nd out of 47 participants in the shot put to finish ahead of a Power 4 student-athlete.
 
SLU's appearance at the NCAA East First Round will continue Thursday, when Onyah Favour takes the track at 7:25 p.m. EDT and 8:45 p.m. EDT for the preliminaries of the women's 400-meter and 200-meter dash, respectively. It will be televised on ESPN+ starting at 5 p.m. CDT.
