SLU Names Six SLC All-Conference, Three Qualify for NCAA First Round

The Lions had six student-athletes honored by the Southland Conference Thursday

FRISCO, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's track & field teams were honored by the Southland Conference Thursday, when the league office announced six Lions had made the All-SLC teams after the Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships last weekend.

Onyah Favour made the All-SLC First, Second, and Third Teams. Josh-Ty Brown earned a spot on the All-SLC First Team. Gerrit Visser appeared on the All-SLC Second Team. Breanna Becerra, Miriam Kauer, and Zoe Wilson made the All-SLC Third Team.

Visser began the championship meet with a silver finish in the hammer throw. The graduate student from Bocholt, Germany, sent the hammer for a career-high distance of 62.86 meters (206'3"), the 42nd-best mark in the NCAA East Region. Visser's silver was his second consecutive second-place finish at the SLC Championships, doing so in his senior season with the Lions. In 2025, Visser's toss was good for 57.21 meters (187'8"), surpassing his previous best by over five meters.

On the second day of the meet, Brown brought home gold. In the shot put, Brown threw for a career-best 18.01 meters (59'1"), marking the best throw by a Southland student-athlete this season. The Kingston, Jamaica native's performance placed him 41st in the NCAA East Region. The sophomore's gold-medal finish was the first SLC medal of his collegiate career.

On Saturday, the Lions closed the meet strong, bringing in six medals on the final day of the SLC Championships. Favour won gold in the 200-meter dash and silver in the 400-meter dash. Favour's 200-meter dash time of 23.19 gave her a personal-best mark and the first SLC medal in the 200-meter event for her career. In the 400-meter dash, Favour broke a school record with a time of 51.25 seconds. The junior's 51.25-second performance is also the 15th-best time in the 400-meter dash in the NCAA East Region.

The SLU women's 4x400-meter relay team ended the meet with a bronze finish. Becerra, Kauer, Wilson, and Favour broke the school record with a 3:39.17 time. Including the relay, Southeastern totaled eight medals during the three-day SLC Championships.

Visser, Brown, and Favour are set to take part in the NCAA East First Round after each qualified for the postseason meet with marks within the top 48 of the East Region. Set to start Wednesday, May 27, the Lions will travel to Lexington, Ky. The meet will be televised on ESPN+.
