Box Score LAKE CHARLES, La. – Despite singles victories by
Bente Bierma and
Mariam Tetradze, the Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Southland Conference foe McNeese Friday afternoon at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
Southeastern fell to 10-8 overall and 3-5 in SLC play, while the host Cowgirls (18-1, 7-0 SLC) remained alone atop the Southland Conference standings.
"McNeese has a great team and we got off to a little bit of a slow start in doubles," Southeastern head coach
Jason Hayes said. "We were really pleased with heart shown by Bente and Mariam to earn two key singles victories."
Tetradze (10-4, 3-4 SLC) won her third straight singles match, topping Ana Hollweg, who came in boasting a team-best 17-1 singles mark, 6-3, 6-4, on the No. 4 singles court. On court 2, Bierma rallied for a 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 win over McNeese's Alexa Martinez Mendoza.
McNeese swept all three doubles matches and won in straight sets on the other four singles courts to secure the victory.
Southeastern will close out the regular season with five matches in a seven-day stretch, starting Monday with a noon home match versus Loyola (N.O.). Live stats for Monday's match will be accessible via the tennis schedule page at
