Southeastern Travels to LSU Alumni Gold Saturday

SLU will compete in its final in-state meet of the season in Baton Rouge, La.

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's track & field teams are set to return to Baton Rouge, La., for the LSU Alumni Gold meet at Bernie Moore Track Stadium Saturday.

Following SLU's Strawberry Relays at Southeastern Track Complex last week, the Lions are going back on the road for the final two meets before the Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, beginning Thursday, May 14, in Nacogdoches, Texas. Saturday's meet in Baton Rouge is set to begin at 10 a.m. with women's hammer. Events on the track are scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. with the women's 4x100-meter relay.

The Lions are coming off strong performances at last week's home meet that featured seven first-place finishes and 17 podium finishes between the SLU men and women.

Among last Friday's first-place finishers, Onyah Favour will compete at Bernie Moore Track Stadium Saturday, seeking to improve her 400-meter dash time of 52.83, the third-best mark in the SLC.

After winning the hammer throw at last week's meet, Gerrit Visser will aim to improve his throw of 60.27 meters (197'9"), the second-highest mark in the Southland. After claiming a win in the shot put at the Strawberry Relays, Josh-Ty Brown also remains in the top five in the Southland with a shot put of 17.18 meters (56'4").

Next week, the Lions will compete in the final meet prior to the SLC Championships. The teams will make the trip to Lexington, Ky., for the Jim Green Invitational. The two-day meet on the campus of the University of Kentucky will begin May 1.
