Southeastern Hosts Alcorn State to Close Nonconference Play

SLC regular season champion SLU (41-11) opens home stand Tuesday at 5 p.m.

HAMMOND, La. – The 2026 Southland Conference regular season champion and two-time reigning SLC Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team will close out regular season nonconference play Tuesday, hosting Alcorn State for a 5 p.m. contest at North Oak Park.

Tuesday's game between the Lions (41-11) and the visiting Lady Braves (13-30) will be sponsored by La Capitol Federal Credit Union and the first 100 fans will receive a free gift from LaCap FCU. Tuesday's contest will be shown on ESPN+. Southeastern also plans on presenting the conference regular season championship trophy prior to the game.

With the regular season championship wrapped up, Southeastern has clinched the No. 1 seed in the Southland Conference Tournament. The Lions will host the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 8 seeds for bracket play April 30-May 2 at North Oak Park. Should SLU advance through bracket play, the Lions will welcome the other bracket winner for the best two-out-of-three championship series May 7-9.

Southeastern is hitting .340 as a team heading into Tuesday's contest and currently is fifth in Division I with 462 hits this season. Shelby Morris leads the team with a .408 batting average, 53 runs scored, 73 hits and six triples, while sharing team-high honors with Chloe Magee with 21 stolen bases apiece. Cydnee Schneider (.381), Brilee Ford (.381), Colleen Kulivan (.351) and Ka'Lyn Watson (.350) are the other top hitters for average for SLU.

Maria Detillier leads SLU with eight home runs and 49 RBI, while Ford (5 HR, 38 RBI) and Watson (5 HR, 23 RBI) are the other top power threats. Schneider is fourth nationally with a league-high 19 doubles, while Morris is currently seventh in Division I with six triples.

Schneider and Morris are both within striking distance of etching their names in the school record books. Schneider needs one double to tie and two doubles to break the single-season school record of 20 doubles set by Rebecca Skains in 2019. Morris is currently two runs from tying and three runs from breaking the single-season school standard of 55 runs scored established by Watson in 2024.
The Southeastern pitching staff is currently second nationally with a 1.63 team ERA and leads Division I with a single-season school record 18 shutouts. Cera Blanchard (12-1, 1.14 ERA, 3 saves) and Hallie Burns (17-4, 1.36 ERA, 2 saves) currently rank fourth and seventh, respectively, nationally in ERA. Macie LaRue (5-2, 2.39 ERA, 1 save), Haley Crawford (4-2, 1.37 ERA, 2 saves), Tyler Oubre (0-1, 4.77 ERA), Bre Clark (1-0, 1.02 ERA), Katherine Thiessen (2-1, 1.75 ERA) and Celia Lamkin (0-0, 3.50 ERA) have also seen time in the circle for SLU.

The Lion pitchers will be facing an Alcorn State squad with a .262 team batting average, led by Yahnya Acevedo (.352, 3 HR, 22 RBI). Chiara Olison (7-17, 6.78 ERA) and Alainah Felton (4-9, 5.25 ERA, 1 save) are the primary arms for an ASU staff that carries a 6.70 team ERA.

Following Tuesday's contest, Southeastern will host UIW for a Southland Conference series, sponsored by North Oaks Health System. The series opens with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday and concludes Saturday at noon. All three games will be televised on ESPN+.
