HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team opens a busy six-match stretch to close out the regular season with a pair of matches that have both been moved up a day due to weather.
SLU (10-7, 3-4 SLC) opens the week Friday with a 2 p.m. Southland Conference contest at league-leading McNeese (17-1, 6-0 SLC). The Lions return home Monday for a noon nonconference match versus Loyola (N.O.) at the Southeastern Tennis Complex. Southeastern snapped a five-match losing streak with a 6-1 SLC road win at Nicholls Monday. After dropping the doubles point, SLU rallied to win all six singles matches – three coming in three sets.
Adriana Tirado (12-4, 5-2 SLC),
Paige Duncan (11-3, 6-1 SLC),
Mariam Tetradze (9-4, 2-4 SLC) and
Aitana Darder (5-5, 4-3 SLC) have led the way in singles play for the Lions. Darder and Bolsova (9-7, 4-2 SLC) have the team's top doubles mark.
The Cowgirls sit atop the SLC standings and come in on a 12-match winning streak. Ana Hollweg boasts a team-best 17-1 singles mark, while teaming with Naomi Hagi with a 15-2 doubles record.
Loyola (7-4) is currently ranked 10
th nationally in NAIA and has won six consecutive matches. The Wolfpack is led in singles play by undefeated Adele Fereres (8-0), who is also 5-3 in doubles action with teammate Micaela Ponce.
Following the two matches, SLU will travel to Jackson, Miss. to play a doubleheader next Thursday. The Lions face Jackson State at 1 p.m. and Mississippi Valley State at 4 p.m.
