SLU Celebrates Senior Day at Strawberry Relays

Southeastern honored its 13 seniors in Friday's home meet

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's track & field teams hosted the annual Strawberry Relays meet at Southeastern Track Complex Friday. The SLU men placed second out of 11 teams while the Southeastern women ended the meet in third out of nine teams.
 
Seniors Kaylie Anderson, Bailey Babin, Breanna Becerra, Donald Butler, Kallie Calvaruso, Darian Chestnut, Trey Faherty, Alex Gordon, Austin Harper, Miriam Kauer, Micah Miller, Landen Schillage, and Gerrit Visser were honored by Southeastern at the meet.
 
The Lions tallied seven first-place finishes in the home meet. Ava Pitarro got SLU started with a win in the 1,500-meter run with a 4:59.54 time. Onyah Favour also claimed victory for the Southeastern women, taking first in the 400-meter dash, clocking 53.37 in the event. Favour, who currently holds the third-best 400-meter mark in the Southland Conference, recorded a 53.37 time, the fourth-best performance in the Southland this season.
 
Tanner Salsman won the 1,500-meter run for the SLU men, notching a 4:06.26 time. Daniel Atinaya's 21.79 mark in the 200-meter dash gave him a victory. Along with Jacory Plaisance, Chestnut, and Romel Williams, Atinaya also won the 4x400-meter relay with a 3:17.64 time to earn the fifth-best mark in the SLC.
 
On the field, the senior Visser won the men's hammer with a 57.97-meter (190'2") throw. Josh-Ty Brown's 16.44-meter (53'11") shot put toss gave him a win.
 
The Lions totaled 17 podium finishes on the day. On the women's side, Mya Parker took third in the 1,500-meter run with a 5:05.50 time. Kauer claimed second in the 400-meter dash with a 57.00 time. Zoe Wilson clocked 26.25 in the 200-meter dash to take third. The senior Babin was third in the javelin throw with a mark of 34.77 meters (114').
 
On the men's side, Gordon's 10.83-meter time was third in the 100-meter dash. Chestnut's third-place finish recorded a time of 1:55.52 in the 800-meter run. In second place in the 400-meter hurdles, Brian Simon ended the race with a 58.72 time. Miller and Porter Gibson finished second and third with distances of 49.38 (162') meters and 49.12 (161'1") meters in the discus. Christian Diggs ended the javelin throw in second with a mark of 55.67 meters (182'7").
 
The Lions will compete in Baton Rouge, La., next week, for the LSU Alumni Gold meet. The meet at Bernie Moore Track Stadium will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, Apr. 25.
