SLU Falls in Tough 3-2 Battle Against North Alabama

The Sandy Lions closed out their regular season with a tough 3-2 loss versus North Alabama as they will regroup to compete in the 2026 SLC Beach Volleyball Championship Tournament April 22-24

FLORENCE, Ala. – The Southeastern Louisiana University beach volleyball team ended day two of the North Alabama Beach Ball, dropping its final regular season match Friday morning at the UNA Beach Volleyball Courts.

Southeastern (15-14, 5-2 SLC) suffered a tough 3-2 loss against host North Alabama (21-12) to close out the week on the road. The Sandy Lions dropped their second straight match of the two-day tournament, but closed out the regular season with the most single season wins in program history.

SLU came out to a slow start as North Alabama worked early to gain an advantage. Pair two Carley Petty and Emmaleigh Vincent fought to try and force the match into three-sets, but could not capitalize as the hosts remained in control. Pair four Makayla Hicks and Cadie Kusy stepped up to provide momentum for Southeastern as the duo claimed a 21-17, 21-18 victory, 1-1.

North Alabama battled to regroup as its pair one recorded a two-set win to reclaim its lead, 2-1. Pair five Elizabeth Hardouin and Genevieve Schubert carried over momentum from its previous match as they earned a solid 21-17, 22-20 win over the host Lions. Hardouin and Schubert proved to be a solid pair for Southeastern, as the graduate senior and sophomore extended their three-match winning streak, and helped the green and gold tie the match 2-2.

The hosts locked in and worked to counter SLU's momentum as its pair three came out to a hot start in set one, 21-13. Maggie Paiva and Taylor Stockwell worked to stay within reach late in the second set of the match, but North Alabama refused to allow a third-set, securing a 21-13, 21-19 victory to seal the deal.

The Sandy Lions will return to the sand for its postseason appearance in the 2026 Southland Conference Beach Volleyball Championship Tournament Wednesday, March 22-24. No. 2 Southeastern will face conference rival No. 7 Nicholls Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Corpus Christi, Texas.
