SLU Hosts Strawberry Relays Friday

Southeastern will celebrate Senior Day at 12 p.m.

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's track & field teams are preparing to host the Strawberry Relays at Southeastern Track Complex on Senior Day Friday.
 
Friday's events will begin with the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 8:30 a.m. The hammer throw at North Campus will start at 9 a.m. At 12 p.m., Southeastern will be recognizing its 13 track and field seniors: Kaylie Anderson, Bailey Babin, Breanna Becerra, Donald Butler, Kallie Calvaruso, Darian Chestnut, Trey Faherty, Alex Gordon, Austin Harper, Miriam Kauer, Micah Miller, Landen Schillage, and Gerrit Visser. Track events will begin at 12:15 p.m., following the Senior Day celebration.
 
The Lions return to Hammond after a visit to the Pelican Relays in Baton Rouge, La. SLU tallied five golds and 14 podium finishes at last week's meet, hosted by Southern University.
 
Three Southeastern women claimed first-place finishes, with Becerra, Kauer, and Ava Pitarro each winning events in Baton Rouge. Becerra won the 400-meter dash with a personal-best 56.22, while Kauer earned a victory in the 800-meter run with a 2:16.42 time. Pitarro finished first in the 1,500-meter run with a 5:05.07 mark.
 
Butler and Josh-Ty Brown claimed the final two golds for the SLU. Butler's high jump of 2.07 meters (6'9") gave him a win. Butler's career-best mark of 2.10 meters (6'10") from the LSU Opener remains the sixth-best mark in the Southland Conference this season. Brown claimed victory with a shot put of 17.10 meters (56'1"). Brown still owns the fifth-best toss in the SLC this season with a mark of 17.18 meters (56'4").
 
Next week, the Lions will travel back to Baton Rouge for the LSU Alumni Gold meet at Bernie Moore Track Stadium, Saturday, Apr. 25. The meet at LSU will start at 10 a.m.
