HAMMOND, La. – After helping the two-time reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team extend Division I's longest current winning streak to 23 games, senior outfielder Ka'Lyn Watson was named the SLC Hitter of the Week in an announcement from the league office Monday.
 
Watson is the fourth Lion to receive weekly recognition from the Southland this spring. The Missouri City, Texas native joins teammates Hallie Burns (Feb. 9), Maria Detillier (March 16) and Cera Blanchard (March 30).
 
Watson hit .889 with a 2.456 OPS, five runs, two doubles, two triples, three walks and an RBI during a 4-0 week that saw SLU earn a 5-4 road win at USM before outscoring a Lamar team that came to Hammond on a 14-game winning streak, 20-1, in a three-game sweep. She tied a single-game school record with two triples in an 8-0 victory over Lamar Friday and set a new career school record with 15 triples.
 
In her final season in Hammond, Watson has raised her batting average to .364, including a .457 batting average in 18 Southland Conference games. She has five home runs, five triples and five doubles this spring.
 
Southeastern will close out its regular season road schedule this week with six league contests on tap. SLU will open the week at SFA for a three-game series, currently scheduled to open with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday and conclude Wednesday at noon. The series with the Ladyjacks will be televised on ESPN+.
