HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team will be featured on national television, the softball team will look to clinch its first-ever Southland Conference regular season championship, the tennis team competes in the SLC championships, the track team hosts a meet, the golf and beach volleyball teams compete in their final pre-SLC Championship tune-ups, while the indoor volleyball team hosts a pair of exhibitions during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
Winners of 10 of its last 12 games, the reigning Southland Conference regular season champion Southeastern baseball team (23-14, 12-6 SLC) hits the road this week, starting with a 6:30 p.m. contest Tuesday at Tulane before heading to Edinburg, Texas for a three-game SLC series at UTRGV.
Friday's 6:30 p.m. season opener will be the first Southland baseball matchup on national television, as the game will air on ESPNU. The series continues Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and concludes Sunday at 1 p.m.
Boasting the nation's longest winning streak at 23 games, the two-time reigning SLC Tournament champion SLU softball team (37-9, 18-0 SLC) needs four wins this week to secure the first-ever Southland regular season championship in program history. The Lions visit SFA for a three-game series, which opens Tuesday with a 4 p.m. doubleheader and concludes Wednesday at noon.
Southeastern then heads to Nicholls for a three-game set that starts with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday and wraps up Saturday at noon. SLU has a six-game lead with nine games to go in the conference standings.
The Lion tennis team (14-8, 4-5 SLC) will open up play at the Southland Conference Championships this week in Beaumont, Texas. SLU will face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the first round Sunday at 10 a.m.
The Southeastern track and field team will host the Strawberry Relays Friday at the Southeastern Track and Field Complex.
The SLU beach volleyball team (14-12, 5-2 SLC) will be in Florence, Ala. to compete in this week's North Alabama Beach Ball. The Lions face Central Arkansas at 11 a.m. and Missouri State at 2 p.m. Thursday. Friday will see Southeastern take on host UNA at 8 a.m. and Missouri State at noon.
The Lion golf team will return to the course this week. Southeastern will participate in the AState Spring Invitational Monday and Tuesday in Jonesboro, Ark.
The Southeastern indoor volleyball team will host LSU at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Xavier (N.O.) at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the University Center for spring exhibition matches.
