Southeastern Falls Against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and No. 12 LSU

SLU falls against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and No. 12 LSU in the final day of the Battle on the Bayou

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University beach volleyball team ended the final day of the Battle on the Bayou 0-2 Saturday afternoon at the LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium.

SLU (14-12, 5-2 SLC) closed out the weekend suffering two tough losses on the road. Southeastern opened the day against conference foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (20-9, 6-0 SLC), falling in a 5-0 sweep. The Sandy Lions dropped its second match against the Islanders this season as they suffered their only shutout of the multi-day tournament. 

Southeastern battled to stay within the fight but Texas A&M-Corpus Christi battled to maintain its edge. Elizabeth Hardouin and Genevieve Schubert fought to provide momentum but the Islanders remained in control, securing a 21-19, 21-14 victory. Pair four Makayla Hicks and Cadie Kusy worked to force the match into three sets but Texas A&M-Corpus Christi locked in to gain a 21-19, 21-13 win.

The Sandy Lions returned to the sand, suffering a hard-fought 4-1 battle against No. 12 LSU (17-13). Southeastern fell against its third nationally ranked opponent this season as the Tigers worked to extend their four-match winning streak. Hicks and Kusy battled to help SLU avoid the shutout as the duo forced the match into three sets, gaining a 15-21, 21-19, 16-14 victory. 

The green and gold will remain on the road, traveling to Florence, Ala. to compete in the North Alabama Beach Ball Thursday, April 16-17. The Sandy Lions will face Central Arkansas, Missouri State and North Alabama in its final regular season tournament before the 2026 Southland Conference Beach Volleyball Championship Tournament Wednesday, April 22-24.
