HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University beach volleyball team secured a 5-0 victory over William Carey Wednesday afternoon in its final home match of the 2025-26 season.
SLU (12-10, 5-2 SLC) extended its six-match winning streak with a dominant win at home against William Carey (3-13, 3-8). Ranking No.49 in the nation, according to Collegiate Beach Volleyball (CBVB), Southeastern maintained its momentum against the Crusaders to deliver its first shutout of the season.
The Sandy Lions came out to a strong start as William Carey had no answer for hosts' intensity out the gate. Emmaleigh Vincent provided a spark of momentum as part of pair three after bouncing back from injury alongside partner Carley Petty, claimed a two-set victory over the Crusaders. Seniors Mia McKinney and Maggie Paiva held the edge for Southeastern with a commanding two-set victory in their last match in Hammond, America.
Pair five Elizabeth Hardouin and Genevieve Schubert battled against William Carey early in set one, but regrouped to take the lead and claim SLU's third two-set victory against the visitors. Makayla Hicks and Cadie Kusy also stepped up for the green and gold early in the second set to secure the win for pair four.
Reigning Southland Conference Pair of the Week Mia Sauers and Gabriela Hrubanova sealed the sweep after a hard-fought battle. William Carey fought to bring set two down to the wire, but Sauers and Hrubanova locked in to win the final set 21-20.
Six seniors were honored before the victory over the Crusaders as Mia McKinney, Makayla Hicks, Elizabeth Hardouin, Carley Petty, Maggie Paiva and Lauren Schlotzhauer were recognized. The 2025-26 Southeastern Beach Volleyball senior class was celebrated for their impact on Hammond, America and the success of the program this season.
Southeastern will return to the sand and compete in the North Alabama Beach Ball Thursday, April 16-17. SLU will face Central Arkansas, North Alabama and Missouri State.
