SLU Closes Road Swing, Opens SLC Play

Southeastern (14-9) faces UTA Thursday, before three-game series at East Texas A&M

HAMMOND, La. – The two-time reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team will close out its month-long stretch of 20 straight games away from home this week with four games in northeast Texas.
 
SLU (14-9) closes out its pre-Southland Conference schedule Thursday with a 5 p.m. contest at UT Arlington (8-12). Southeastern will then open league action with a three-game series at East Texas A&M (5-18).
 
The Battle of the Lions opens with a 5 p.m. doubleheader Friday and concludes Saturday at noon. All four of this week's games are scheduled to be televised on ESPN+.
 
Southeastern enters the week with a .278 team batting average. Kailey Dixon leads the team with a .339 bating average, followed by Cydnee Schneider (.328), Shelby Morris (.324) and Chloe Magee (.323). Morris also leads the team with 24 hits and 18 runs scored.
 
Ka'Lyn Watson paces the squad with three home runs, while Brilee Ford has two long balls to her credit. Maria Detillier leads Southeastern with 14 RBI, while Schneider has a team-high seven doubles.
 
A deep Lady Lion pitching staff has a 2.33 team earned run average and six shutouts. Cera Blanchard (6-1, 1.45 ERA, 1 save), Hallie Burns (4-3, 2.44 ERA), Haley Crawford (1-1, 1.31 ERA, 2 saves), Macie LaRue (2-2, 3.76 ERA), Tyler Oubre (0-1, 5.79 ERA), Bre Clark (0-0, 0.00 ERA) and Katherine Thiessen (1-1, 4.20 ERA) have all seen action in the circle this season.
 
UT Arlington has a .297 batting average as team, led by Mia McNulty (.418, 7 HR, 19 RBI). The Mavs have a 7.68 team ERA with Maddie Furniss (3-3, 6.81 ERA) having thrown the most innings for UTA.
 
East Texas A&M carries a .253 team batting average into the opening SLC series of the season with KK Cosek leading the Lions with a .314 batting average. Madison Kloepper (3-6, 6.70 ERA, 1 save) and Maddie Muller (1-6, 7.18 ERA) are the primary arms for ETAMU, which has an 8.36 team earned run average.
 
Following this week's action, Southeastern will return home for the first time in a month, hosting Southern Miss March 11 at 5 p.m. at North Oak Park. The game, which will be sponsored by Tangi Tourism and televised on ESPN+, will feature the Pack the Park promotion. Students will receive free t-shirts by presenting their student ID. It's also Greek Night and fans can bring donations to the Southeastern Student Food Pantry.
