HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University celebrates Super Lion Saturday, while the SLU baseball, softball, tennis, beach volleyball, golf and track teams are all in action during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
The reigning Southland Conference regular season champion Southeastern baseball team (13-11, 5-4 SLC) opens the week on the road, facing UL Lafayette Tuesday at 6 p.m. SLU then hosts league foe New Orleans for the Ponchartrain Bowl series, starting Friday at 6 p.m., continuing Saturday at 2 p.m. and concluding Sunday at 1 p.m.
Each Friday Funday at the Pat during the season will features fans 12 and under receiving the opportunity to stand with their favorite Lion during the national anthem. Each Saturday will feature Bingo at the Ballpark, while every Sunday will be Military Appreciation Day.
The two-time reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion SLU softball team (26-9, 9-0 SLC) carries a school-record tying 12-game winning streak on the road this week. The Lady Lions open the week with a 5 p.m. contest at ULM Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Southeastern then heads to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a three-game SLC series, starting with a 4 p.m. contest Friday and concluding Saturday with a noon doubleheader.
The Lion women's tennis team (9-5, 2-2 SLC) has a pair of Southland matches on tap this week. SLU welcomes Northwestern State for an 11 a.m. match Monday. The first 150 Southeastern students in attendance will receive a free t-shirt courtesy of Southeastern Athletics. The Lions will be back on the road Saturday, traveling to New Orleans for a 2 p.m. match.
Fresh off a 3-1 showing at the Southland Conference Mid-Season Invitational, the Southeastern beach volleyball team (9-10, 5-2 SLC) will be in Lake Charles Saturday to compete in the Sandy Polk Invitational, facing Tarleton State and host McNeese.
The SLU golf team will return to the course this week. The Lions will compete in the Austin Peay Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday in Dickson, Tenn.
The Lion and Lady Lion track and field teams will be in Starksville, Miss. Friday and Saturday to compete in the Alumni Bulldog Relays.
A total of 17 former Southeastern football student-athletes will participate in Louisiana Pro Day Tuesday in Metairie at 11 a.m. The event is closed to the public. The current Lions will close out spring practice Saturday at 9 a.m. to open Super Lion Saturday. Football season ticket holders will have a chance to renew their season tickets at Saturday's practice.
