HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball and softball teams look to build on strong starts to Southland Conference play, while the beach volleyball, tennis and track and field teams will also be in action during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
The reigning Southland Conference regular season champion Southeastern baseball team (11-8, 4-1 SLC) opens the week Tuesday, hosting No. 9 Oklahoma for a 6 p.m. contest at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. Fans are encouraged to wear green to support the Lions for the St. Patrick's Day contest, while SLU students will receive free t-shirts for the Pack the Patty promotion.
The Lions will then return to league play, heading to McNeese for a three-game series. The set opens Friday at 6 p.m., continues Saturday at 2 p.m. and concludes Sunday at 1 p.m.
Winners of its last eight games, the two-time reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion SLU softball team (22-9, 6-0 SLC) concludes its eight-game home stand Tuesday, welcoming Jackson State for a 5 p.m. contest. Tuesday will be Superhero Night, as fans are encouraged to wear their favorite super hero gear. It will also be Faculty and Staff night at North Oak Park, as all Southeastern faculty and staff will receive free admission by presenting their SLU ID at the front entrance. Fans can also bring non-perishable food items to Tuesday's game to donate as part of the Southeastern Food Pantry drive.
The Lady Lions will then look to retain the Cypress Trophy, hosting Northwestern State for a three-game series at North Oak Park. The series opens with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday on Youth Sports Night, while the series wraps Saturday at noon.
The SLU beach volleyball team (5-9, 2-1 SLC) opens its home schedule Tuesday with a 1 p.m. contest versus Spring Hill at the Southeastern Beach Volleyball Complex. Southeastern then heads to the SLC Mid-Year Invitational in Youngsville, La., opening tournament play Saturday versus Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 9 a.m. and HCU at 1 p.m. Sunday will see the Beach Lions take on SFA at 9 a.m. and Nicholls at 1 p.m.
The Southeastern tennis team (9-3, 2-1 SLC) opens the week on the road, traveling to UL Lafayette for a 6 p.m. match Wednesday. SLU returns home to host SFA Saturday for a 3 p.m. SLC contest at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
The SLU track and field teams continue the outdoor season on the road this week. The Lions and Lady Lions will travel to Baton Rouge to compete in the LSU Opener at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
