Lady Lions End Day One with Split Decision in New Orleans

SLU closes out day one of the Tulane Bayou Beach Duals with a 3-2 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville after falling 3-2 versus UTEP

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University beach volleyball team closed out day one of the Tulane Bayou Beach Duals with a split decision Friday afternoon at the White Sands Beach Volleyball Facility.

SLU (3-8, 1-1 SLC) finished with a 1-1 split decision to close out day one of the tournament while on the road. The Lady Lions opened serve early in the morning, suffering a 3-2 loss against UTEP (3-7, 1-1). Gabriella Hrubanova and Mia Sauers gained a three-set victory on Court One against the Miners while Elizabeth Hardouin and Geneieve Schubert also secured a 21-23, 21-14, 15-11 victory. Schubert, alongside her pair partner Hardouin, helped to provide SLU momentum with a big win over her twin sister on Court 5.

Southeastern bounced back to end the day with a 3-2 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville (10-3). The Lady Lions turned around and secured a three-set victory over the Javelinas as Makayla Hicks and Cadie Kusy earned a 20-22, 21-11, 15-7 win. Schubert and Hardouin extended their winning streak with a dominant 21-13, 21-17 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Court 5 alongside Hrubanova and Sauers claimed a 21-15, 21-19 win.

Both pairs ended the day undefeated as it stepped up for SLU in their first appearance of the two-day event. Southeastern will suit up and return to the sand Saturday against Central Arkansas at 11 a.m. before facing host Tulane at 4 p.m. and conference rival Nicholls at 5:15 p.m.
